Is MOSAIC “contemporary”? We prefer the word “relevant”. Relevant means connected; having some sensible or logical connection with something else such as a matter being discussed or investigated. Having social significance; have some bearing on or importance for real-world issues, present-day events, or the current state of society. MOSAIC is relevant because we are applying Biblical principles to our daily life. i.e.: relevant teaching, eclectic (arts & music) times of celebration, small groups, service opportunities, missions, community revitalization, etc. Is MOSAIC casual? Yes! We are a “come as you are” community. We welcome everyone. What does the name “MOSAIC” mean? Where did it come from? MOSAIC is a metaphor that has been used for many years. The idea that every moment, every experience, every relationship, that anything that we go through; is a moment in which we glimpse pieces and parts of God. Shards of glass, jewels, and precious stones often make up a mosaic. Broken pieces (people) brought together by God’s gracious and skillful hands, to make something beautiful…is a vivid analogy to portray a body of believers. The name MOSAIC greatly represents this creative, broken, unique body of believers and God's act of redemption among them. 1 Corinthians 13:12 “Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” This mosaic that He is building, although beautiful, pales in comparison to what we will see when we see Him in His fullness. God is the master artist, creating a masterpiece, making each and all of us into something useful in His hands for His glory. While one broken piece of glass or stone has little use or value, the many pieces form something of great use and significance as in a mosaic. The final outcome is still broken pieces, however, now assembled and of infinite value, each and all eagerly wait for full healing from God. Who is MOSAIC targeting? Simply stated, wounded saints who have given up on the church, and people who have no appreciable relationship with, or knowledge of, God through Jesus His Son. What does the target look like? MOSAIC is designed to meet a generation who tends to be fearful, resentful and/or suspicious of the institution; who believes that actions speak louder than words. A generation that is looking for something/someone that will meet them where they are in life with authenticity, openness and honesty. They are typified by the current crop of “20 and 30 somethings” (this generation) but really is for anyone who has either given up on church or has never graced the doors of a church. MOSAIC is for anyone who seeks a transparent, honest life of service and who want to be a part of a community that will go into the places and lives of others and show them the love of God in Christ Jesus. |
